Hammocks are the ultimate way to release stress. When lying in Traditional South and Central American hammocks diagonal or fully crosswise your whole body is supported and can give a feeling of weightlessness. The more tension ropes at each end, the better your weight is distributed over the hammock and therefore lowers the amount of pressure points. Hammocks have also proven to lessen back and neck problems and have a positive effect on sleep quality. The gentle rocking motions of the hammock created by your breathing and movements are believed to have a positive effect on post-surgery recovery, varicose veins, people with ADD, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, ADHD and overall mental health issues, during pregnancy, delivery and recovery periods. All our hammocks are easily washable at 40 degrees Celcius and are suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
Tips for buying a hammock.
When buying a hammock it is important to keep certain aspects in mind. Paying attention to the amount of tension ropes and the width of the hammock are important for optimal comfort. The most comfortable way to lye in a hammock is crosswise this makes it possible for the tension ropes to distribute your weight over the full width of the hammock. We do not advise hammocks with spreader bars. Hammocks with spreader bars have the tendency to tilt. This is not the case with South American hammocks. Spreader bars have been introduced by European's, as they did not know how to properly lye in a hammock. All our hammocks are supplied with an instruction booklet, that will give a full explanation on how safely use your traditional hammock and how to get the most out of these wonderful products. If you do not have suitable suspension points to suspend the hammock, we do advise to order a hammock stand along with your hammock. We have hammock stands available in many sizes colours and designs. An alternative option when not enough space is available, is a hammock hanging chair. These offer almost the same benefits of a hammock, but do not need as much space and can be suspended from one suspension point on the ceiling or tree branch.
When buying a hammock pay attention to:
- The amount of tension ropes : heavily influences the total carry capacity and proper distribution of the hammock. The more tension ropes the better the body weight is distributed over the whole cloth.
- Macramé: A technique used mostly on brazilian hammocks. The open knotted finish between cloth and tension ropes helps the weight to be distributed more evenly.
- Width of the hammock: The right way to lie in a Traditional South American hammock is diagonally or crosswise. This ensures maximum support over the full body length. If your height is up to 1.75 m (5’9”), we advise a hammock with a width of at least 165 cm (65 inches). For those who are up to 1.95 m (6’5”), a wider hammocks with at least 185 cm (73 inches) is recommended. For taller individuals, more than 1.95 m (6’5’’), the 'Rainbow Gigante' hammock with a width of 210 cm (80 inches) is the best hammock for optimal comfort.
- Hammock hanging chairs: Are a great alternative to full-size hammocks when if you are tight on space. Hammock chairs only require one point of support with use of a spreader bar, but can also be suspended by using 2 suspenson points from each opposite side of the walls, trees, poles, etc. All our hanging chairs are made of high quality cotton and are available in many different colours and models.
Lying diagonally or crosswise in a hammock, with the right amount of tension ropes and good quality macramé, can give a feel of total weightlessness. Because there are no pressure points your muscles will optimally relax by themselves.
